Never. . . Seriously. . .

Never Has It Been This Bad In American History

"There is a game played all over the world.  In some places—Canada and the UK spring to mind—it’s even achieved the status of a sport.  In the ultimate manifestation of this sport, smartly dressed TV presenters are shipped over to the United States, microphones in hand.  They descend upon the trailer parks, the small towns, the family farms, and the lower-income city neighborhoods, for candid, deliberately cruel interviews about global politics, foreign cultures, evolution, geography—anything that will elicit blank stares from their marks.  The message is abundantly clear:  Americans, as we all know, are hilariously stupid."

Frist To Join Telecast Denouncing Democrats as 'Against People of Faith'
The Senate leader and self-confessed cat mutilator will help promote the message that "...activist courts, aided by liberal interest groups like the A.C.L.U., have been quietly working under the veil of the judiciary, like thieves in the night, to rob us of our Christian heritage and our religious freedoms."

[ The following facts are linked directly to their source. . . ]

44% of adult Americans do not completely read a single book in one year.

. . .And take a look at this table of acceptance of evolution by country:

Percent Who Believe in...
           Bible Inerrancy      Evolution

USA            33.5                     35.4
Britain           7.0                      76.7
Germany      12.5                     72.7
Italy             27.0                     65.2
Philippines    53.7                     60.9
Poland         37.4                     35.4
Russia          9.9                      41.4

[ The following is a direct quote from this The Harris Poll® #14, February 18, 2005 ]

"More surprising perhaps are the large numbers (albeit not majorities) who believe the following claims not made by the president and which virtually no experts believe to be true:

47 percent believe that Saddam Hussein helped plan and support the hijackers who attacked the      U.S. on September 11, 2001 (up six percentage points from November).  [ My Emphasis ]
44 percent actually believe that several of the hijackers who attacked the U.S. on September 11      were Iraqis (up significantly from 37% in November).  [ My Emphasis ]
36 percent believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. invaded (down      slightly from 38% in November).

Another interesting finding is that only 46 percent believe that Saddam Hussein was prevented from developing weapons of mass destruction by the U.N. weapons inspectors, a fact which most reports now support."

[ Obviously, not only are we, as a nation, stupid/ignorant, we are becoming more so. ]

Here's more embarrassing proof. . .
From: "America By The Numbers - No. 1?"
City Pages - Minneapolis/St. Paul - Feb. 23, 2005

* Twenty percent of Americans think the sun orbits the earth.
* Seventeen percent believe the earth revolves around the sun once a day.
* The leading cause of death of pregnant women in this country is murder.
* Forty-three percent of Americans think torture is sometimes justified.
* Women are 70 percent more likely to die in childbirth in America than in Europe.

[ I have to stop here - This is not bumming me out - It's pissing me off. ]
