“High Unemployment and High Inflation Make This Recession Different”
- Enjoy the read -

“The Cavalry Isn’t Coming”

“Why is this recession different from almost all other recessions?” asked Herbert Barchoff.  The economist, a former president of the Council of Economic Advisers, answered his own question: “This is not only the usual cyclical recession, but also a structural recession.”

But wait.  There’s even more bad news.

Two-thirds of economic activity is generated by consumer spending.  Most people are broke ... “In 2000,” reports David Leonhardt in The Times, “at the end of the last economic expansion, the median family made about $61,000, according to the Census Bureau’s inflation-adjusted numbers.  In 2007, in what looks to have been the final year of the most recent expansion, the median family, amazingly, seems to have made less--about $60,500.”

Great article. I think he may even be optimistic...but talking about that would only make things worse.

I keep pushing for American to throw itself into the alterntive energy/solar race. There is a Gates/Microsoft Industrial Revolution type of event waiting to happen in the world and the only thing that has stopped solar from being mainstream affordable so far has been the batteries needed for energy storage.

Japan has developed a new type of storage that will make anything we have out-moded. Once again our country will be too slow to accept change from our spoiled and silly ways and we'll lose out on the opportunity to actually help this economy by once again creating an export product the rest of the world would actually buy.

Not to mention helping to save our existence as a species.

Not to mention possibly saving our Democracy by removing the reason to be in the Middle East...yeah, I know shortened version, but I figure you already know all the rest and I haven't even finished reading the site yet.

Okay, I'll hush up now. I was just so excited to see someone else as worried and angry as I've been.

Menopausal Mick
